Ajo is a
delightful, small town near the Mexico Border, which combines a taste of latin
flavor with the warm Arizona sun and a rich history. Ajo is the birthplace of
copper mining in Arizona.
With a
population of about 3000, Ajo (pronounced ah-ho) more than doubles during the
winter months. Northern visitors come back year after year.
The hub of
the community is a historic and stunning plaza. Tall date palms and two
beautiful churches with mission style architecture surround the Plaza. The
outlying area has many scenic attractions with unusual beauty. Visitors can
take tours into Mexico to sample a very different and enjoyable
lifestyle.
